Take a dynamic approach to learning Spanish 和 experiencing the culture of Latin America with the 本科 Certificate in Latin American Studies in 亿德体育’s College of Liberal 艺术. 自1973年以来, 的17-credit, interdisciplinary Latin American Studies Semester (LASS) certificate program provides a unique 和 enriching experience each spring semester for students interested in Latin American culture, 经济, 语言, 政治与社会. This program is housed in the Department of Spanish 和 Portuguese.
You'll develop a deep underst和ing of Latin America 和 build 语言 proficiency through an intentional array of interdisciplinary courses that meet five days a week 和 are conducted entirely in Spanish. Build a strong sense of community with classmates 和 instructors as you prepare for the semester’s culminating event—a 21-day trip to Quito, 厄瓜多尔的二月和三月.
While abroad, students attend classes at the Andean Center for Latin American Studies, explore the country 和 live with a local family. The LASS program emphasizes 语言 fluency in 和 out of the classroom, 和 it helps students form cultural empathy from a global perspective. Before 和 after their time abroad, students engage in community service opportunities in Philadelphia, allowing them to further explore the 语言 和 culture.

The LASS program is an immersive 和 interdisciplinary sequence of study combining Spanish 语言 和 Latin American culture courses taught in Spanish.
The semester includes nine credit hours of intensive Spanish; six credit hours focused on the geography, history 和 culture of Latin America; a seminar course; 和 a 21-day trip to Ecuador. 类 meet five days a week to promote Spanish 语言 fluency 和 group cohesion.
